Cách paraphrase đầu bài trong IELTS Writing Task 1

Điều cấp thiết của paraphrase là phải giữ được ý nghĩa gốc của đoạn văn. Đây là một trong những kỹ năng quan trọng trong bài thi IELTS, đ/biệt là bài thi viết.

Trong bài thi IELTS Writing, tại cả Task 1 và Task 2, bạn cần paraphrase lại câu khởi điểm. lộ trình để paraphrase một nhan đề trong Task 1 như sau:

Bước 1: Sử dụng các từ thay thế show = give information about = illustrate = demonstrate.

Bước 2: Nếu đề bài nói là "the chart" thì viết lại chi tiết hơn, thành "the first chart" hoặc "the bar chart".

Bước 3: Nếu bảng có rất nhiều đối tượng khác nhau, bạn cần nói rõ những đối tượng đó. Ví dụ nhan đề viết: The chart below shows the amount of money per week spent on fast foods in Britain.

Bạn hãy lưu tâm đến phần gạch chân và viết rõ xem là loại "fast foods" gì. Ví dụ sơ đồ nhìn thấy có 3 loại, bạn viết: 3 different types of fast foods.

Bước 4: những từ chỉ tổng số lượng như amount, number, population, percentage chuyển thành how many/how much và ngược lại.

Bước 5: Nếu có số năm (ví dụ: 1900 - 2015), bạn có thể viết from 1900 to 2015, hoặc áp dụng cụm "over the course of 115 years starting from 1900".

Từ những bước trên, ta rút ra được nhiều gì cần paraphase là: Từ "show", từ "chart", danh từ chung, tổng số lượng, thời gian.

Ví dụ cụ thể:

Ví dụ 1: The chart below shows the amount of money per week spent on fast foods in Britain.

Paraphrase: The bar graph ILLUSTRATES how much money people in Britain spent per week on 3 different types of fast food.

Ví dụ 2: The charts below show the results of a survey of adult education. The first chart shows the reasons why adults decide to study. The pie chart shows how people think the costs of adult education should be shared.

Paraphrase: The bar graph demonstrates 7 different reasons why adults pursue education at their age.

Hoặc: The second chart shows how the surveyees think their education expenses should be allocated.

Ví dụ 3: The table below shows the consumer durables (telephone, refrigerator, etc.) owned in Britain from 1972 to 1983.

Paraphrase: The table illustrates the ownership rate of different home appliances in Britain over the course of 11 years starting from 1972.

Trong ví dụ này, bạn có thể thấy từ gạch chân "consumer durables" lạ, thậm chí không hiểu nghĩa là gì. tuy nhưng nhìn danh sách trong ngoặc, ta thấy có điện thoại thông minh, tủ lạnh,…) nên có thể đoán từ này giống nghĩa với "home appliances" – đồ gia dụng.
